After a week of beautiful weather and mostly sunny skies, which has triggered some early snowmelt and created off-color water conditions in many of our freestone rivers around the state, the first real spring storm of the season is about to descend on the Big Sky state. Up to four inches of precipitation is forecasted in the coming days with high temps dropping into the forties by Friday. Brr!
This is bad news short term for my flip-flop conditioned feet, but great news long term for our mountain snowpack and parched low elevation soils. If you find yourself on a tailwater river like the Missouri or Bighorn, or on a spring creek as well, this week has the potential to be stunningly good for our spring blue-winged olive hatch.
These are the days that GoreTex was made made for, so gear up and go find some happy trout - that's what we'll be doing!
